The IPCC outreach event: expert dialogue on “regional climate change”

The IPCC outreach event was hosted by the School of Atmospheric Science, SUN YAT-SEN University, on June 28th 2018. IPCC co-chair Valérie MASSON-DELMOTTE (CEA-CNRS-UVSQ/IPSL), Prof. Deliang CHEN (University of Gothernburg), Prof. peter THORNE (Maynooth University), Prof. William COLLINS(University of California, Berkeley),?Prof. Andre TURNER (University of Reading), Prof. Jana SILLMANN (CICERO), Prof. Wenjie DONG and Prof. Song YANG (SUN YAT-SEN University) attended this outreach event. The proposed expert dialogue unfolded in the way of free discussions?led by IPCC Authors and SUN YAT-SEN Professors, centering on the topic of ‘regional climate change’.

As?a host, Prof. Song YANG?delivered a welcoming speech, noting that IPCC did a marvelous job in advances and gaps in the field of climate change and relevance for regional policy-making. Then, IPCC Authors made self-introductions, respectively. Prof. Wenjie DONG also introduced the history of School of the Atmospheric Science, SUN YAT-SEN University and international exchange programs.

Afterwards, students and researchers in the University engaged in discussions on topics such as climate extremes, projection?uncertainty, climate effects of TP (the Tibetan Plateau), teleconnection and paleoclimate. Relevant experts gave the answers from the forefront of this field for each topic, receiving very active responses.?
